Suzanne Farrin's opera for countertenor and ensemble, Dolce La Morte, is based on love poetry by Michelangelo, and inspired by his friendship with the young Roman nobleman Tommaso de Cavalieri. Farrin's sensual writing and this performance by the International Contemporary Ensemble with countertenor Eric Jurenas elegantly imports aspects of the aesthetics of the Italian Renaissance into a contemporary music context.
